My Readers are Ageless!

sierra and familyI’m always asked the question “What age group reads your books?”, and I always respond that I seem to have readers of all ages. Today, I present my proof!

I recently heard from Sierra Dobbie, a young lady who lives in Ontario, Canada. She’d reviewed Before the Storm on her blog The Reading Chic and wanted to know if she could interview me. She told me both her mother and grandmother had read and recommended Before the Storm and it was the first “adult” novel she’d reviewed. I was touched, especially when I read her review. Sierra was smart enough not to give away the identity of the arsonist in her review, unlike many adult reviewers. I agreed to the interview and again, Sierra did a great and very adult job with her questions. I figured Sierra was about sixteen and I asked if she and her mom and grandmother would like to be featured on my blog. They agreed, sending me this wonderful picture and some information about themselves. That’s when I learned Sierra is eleven. Eleven!! Wow. She gives me hope for the future of the world, or at least of Canada!

Here’s some basic information Sierra shared with me, and then I’ll let her tell you a little more in her own words.

Sierra loves to read and review books. She also has a passion for writing and photography and hopes to make a career out of a mixture of the two.

Her Mom, Kristine, is thirty-five and loves reading, traveling and spending time with the family in their trailer on a lake. She works with people who have intellectual disabilities.

Her Grandmother, Lorraine, is sixty-four and her grandchildren call her Mama. She loves reading, word search puzzles, and spending time with her grandkids, especially on the lake.

Here’s how Sierra describes their relationship to my books:

Our love of Diane Chamberlain books started in Summer of ‘09 when my mom’s good friend and co-worker, Lisa, lent my mom THE SECRET LIFE OF CEECEE WILKES. After finishing it and loving it, she lent it to my mama (grandmother), Lorraine, who also loved it.

When Christmas ‘09 rolled around, my mom’s twin sister, Terri, just happened to get BREAKING THE SILENCE in her stocking. My mother noticed right away that it was the same author and wanted to read it after my aunt was finished. She then read it and lent it to my mama.

Then she borrowed (and still has!) BEFORE THE STORM and SECRETS SHE LEFT BEHIND from her friend Lisa, and then gave them to my mama. Afterwards, she was hooked! She then bought the rest of the books that she could find at our local Chapters. There are still some that we haven’t been able to buy as they have not been in stock.

This past summer, I ran out of my own books to read, which meant crisis! Both my mom and my mama suggested that I should read BEFORE THE STORM, because they thought I would really enjoy it. I fell in love with Diane’s writing from the first page, and couldn’t stop reading. All three of us love how easy her books are to read and how enjoyable the topics are. We all plan to read the rest of her books! Maybe my younger sister will become a Diane Chamberlain fan too!

Watch my blog! I will be sure to review more of Diane Chamberlain books soon!

And here are a few words about Sierra from her understandably proud mother.

Sierra is an exceptional person and mature beyond her years. She has always had a love for reading and has a raw natural talent for writing as well. I could not be more proud of the young lady that she has become and I have no doubt in my mind that she will succeed at anything she puts her mind to!

Don’t you just love this? Thank you Sierra and Kristine and Lorraine, for sharing yourselves with me and my blog readers today. It’s been fun getting to know you!

Diane, I just love this story!…you have touched so many people around the world and it’s so refreshing to hear from a young adult who has a passion for reading like the rest of us. I can tell that Sierra has a beautiful spirit just by reading her words…without a doubt she will fulfill her dreams of becoming a professional writer one day. Her parents and ‘Mama’ are very lucky to have her.
