Bookclub Bonding

P1000862I had such a treat this evening. I received an email a while back from a woman named Jodi who invited me to visit her bookclub. All the women in her club work at a preschool in Cary, NC, but they spend a weekend together on Topsail Island each year. It so happened they’re on TI this weekend, same time as me, so I decided to stop by for just a few minutes . What a great group! I stayed nearly an hour. There’s nothing as interesting, fun, inspirational and bonding as a group of women together. (I’m the one in the hat). They’d read The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes and had lots of questions and lovely compliments. It was a delightful visit. Thank you to Jodi for inviting me and to your group for making me feel so welcome!

How lucky these bookclub members were to have you visit them. Looks like you are all having a wonderful time. Love of books really does bring people together – I have made so many friends while working in the library.

How exciting for Jodi and her group!…and for you too Diane…I’d love to be part of any bookclub that gets to meet you!
From the previous post, Diane I would love to see the house that extends out into the sea…someday I will make it to Topsail and I’m going to find it…Ann, you’re so lucky to be there.

How great that a bookclub can get a weekend away-and what a nice plus-a favorite author. My friends are going back to Topsail in July and hope to find some of those great restaurants-thanks. As to this fan, I will be in CA and INDY this summer…and maybe a quick trip to Myrtle-trouble is, Diane, I can fly really cheaply right to Myrtle…and if I drive-it is (ironically) closer than Topsail…also if I fly-there is public transportation…however, I still plan a trip to Topsail or the area when you are speaking…maybe Margo will get to come too…

Brenda, I’d love to be able to come to Topsail when you go and Diane is speaking or book signing…Brenda, hope you are reading this blog because I wanted to tell you we’re having trouble with e-mails and I cant access any of them or send any out for some reason…I know you’ve probably e-mailed me and I hope the system is working by Sunday…if not the problem will hopefully get fixed Monday.

Margo-hope we can go at the same time…I understand, and I was of course, worried about not hearing from you. (Diane, we made friends with each other on your blog…)

Hi Brenda…so glad you got my message…e-mail is still down…it’s an address I use thru my work and they were doing maintenance on it over the weekend…it will be up and running Monday & I’ll be able to talk with you then…I miss visiting with you but will catch up on Monday.
Diane, your site gave Brenda & myself a great friendship and we e-mail each other all the time. (O:

Diane – Thank you again for taking the time to come by and see us this weekend – we left Topsail this morning and were still talking about how wonderful it was to meet you Friday night! It was definitely a highlight of our trip. You would have loved seeing so many people curled up on the sofa reading CeeCee. We all loved it and can’t wait for your next book to come out!

Karyen, it was my pleasure, believe me! What a great group.

Margo and Brenda, I love that you’ve “found” each other through my blog. So cool!

Tonight’s our last night in Topsail. I’ve gotten a bunch of work done, but it’s time to transfer my manuscript and me back to reality.

    Diane,
Thank you so much for sharing your time with us Friday night. It was a special time for all of us! I hope you accomplished all the work you needed to on the trip to TI. It was hard for us to leave this morning. I look forward to seeing you again in June. You have no idea how you have inspired all of us! Our book club will never be the same. The best of luck in the next few busy weeks!

Thanks Diane for stopping by to visit with our group! We loved talking with you and learning more about your writing process and the publishing industry. Karyen mentioned in her post that many of us were curled up on the couch finishing CeeCee, well one person was so close to the end and was being distracted by the rest of cahtting that she actually locked herself in the bathroom so she could finish with no interruptions! The ending was so good she couldn’t wait to finish!! Thanks again for your time! You are a delight!

You’re welcome, everybody in the bookclub! I’m glad you all had this break. Preschool teachers need to unwind now and then!
