A Few More Topsail Island Party Pix

With my honey, John. So rare for him to be in front of the camera rather than behind it!

With some of the guests–Mike and Linda Hendricks and Sandy Sly. Everyone on Topsail Island looks so tanned and healthy. It’s clear that beach living agrees with them. None of them looks beleaguered and angst-ridden, like my characters.

My publicists, Tori and Kim. Balls of energy, both of them.

With some more of the guests, who also look oblivious to the trials and tribulations of their neighbors, the folks in Secrets She Left Behind.

L to R, that’s Linda Hathaway, Becky Neely, George Hathaway and me.

Sharing a laugh with the delightful Jean Beasley, director of the Turtle Hospital.

liz and diane.jpgMy neighbor and good friend, Liz, taken when we went out to dinner the night before. John and I stayed with Liz and her husband, Dave, in their Topsail Island condo. They’re two of my biggest supporters.

At dinner the night before the party. That’s Liz, John and Glen Pierce in the rear, and my neighbor Dave, pale ol’ me and Sterling Bryson in front. Glen and Sterling were the guys who dreamed up the party and contest and they’re also two of my most faithful readers. Thanks for everything, guys!

Diane, what wonderful pictures!…you look absolutely beautiful and it’s so obvious how much you and John adore each other. Great fun to see pics of Glen and Sterling. For those of us who couldn’t be there, this is the next best thing…thank you so much for sharing your happy day.

Great photos! Wow, John looks almost exactly as I thought he might–cuddly and handsome! Diane, I love that long ‘jacket’ you wore; it’s so pretty!

I know the party was fun and what an honor to have a day named after you!! Topsail Island is such a unique place and I always feel like I am “home” when I go there. It really is Mayberry by the sea.
The pictures are all so good – thanks for sharing.

Beautiful pictures-you amaze me-how many friends you have made-no longer than the time you have lived there…I have to get out more-my life is teaching…I go to church-that’s it…perhaps my seclusion comes from the divorce-who knows…Perhaps because I love my alone time so so so much after teaching all the time…I am excited to leave on my travels in June for the summer…my book had better come before I leave or this woman will have more than one copy of the new one…I just couldn’t take a chance that I could not find it locally right away…so excited…how many days???

Brenda, Diane’s release date for SECRETS is next Tues, May 26…I already have mine pre-ordered with Border’s and am just waiting on the phone call that it’s in…maybe it will arrive early!…I need to hurry and finish a new book I’ve started so I can read Diane’s when it gets here.
Brenda, nothing wrong with seclusion after begin around people all day long…everyone needs down time. (-O:

I agree with Margo. . . nothing wrong with down time. My personal reaction to being divorced was to create new networks for support. I think that’s the old social worker in me: I see a problem, I rally the resources. Although I’m more introvert than extrovert, I do need social outlets and a sense of community–neighborhood, church, and writing friends, not to mention family. I have to say, though, that the Topsail Island folks have embraced me in a way that feels very unique and truly warms my heart.

Wonderful photos of both you and John. This was an event not to be missed. I’m so glad it went well and those of us who couldn’t be there got to see it.
