The Last Song

tybee church the last songToday is our last full day on Tybee Island. All five of us have worked so hard and achieved or surpassed our goals each day. So far. I have some hefty goals for today and can’t wait to buckle down. I’m so grateful to Mary Kay Andrews for inviting us to her beautiful cottage in this unique corner of the universe.

She took us on a little tour of the island the other day. What a fascinating island! Every turn in the road introduces you to an area that feels entirely different from the one you just left.

The church in the picture is darling, but it’s not a real church. It was built for the filming of Nicholas Sparks’ book, The Last Song, starring Miley Cyrus. The movie’s coming out later this month and will apparently include a fire in the church–see the scorch marks near the windows and on the steeple?

We take off for home tomorrow. Although we’re all missing our men, our families, our dogs and our cats,  this is a week I will treasure forever!

Who would have thought? A fire in a church…haven’t I read that somewhere????? I read this book also-the students had it. I don’t understand the appeal as all the books are now alike. However, I wish they would make this one G rated so my grandchildren could see it-they like Miley Cyrus. I enjoyed her movie where she sang THE CLIMB-I took the girls to that one. Glad you have had a good week. Tybee is so great that at one time, I took my son to see it and we considered buying a place there-that was when I lived in S. Carolina…and he in Texas…

Brenda, I love you! You made me laugh out loud. I hadn’t even thought of the fire in a church angle. It’s so nice to have readers who remember my books better than I do.

I thought of the same thing the minute I read this post…the fire…I’ve read that already!…Yes, I first read that in BEFORE THE STORM…I read THE LAST SONG last Fall and enjoyed the book so will probably go to the movie.
    Diane, you’ve had such a wonderful week…

Brenda, GMTA. The second I saw the church, I thought of BTS! Looks almost exactly as I envisioned the church!

I read the last song as well, not a miley fan but i’ll see the movie anyway. With this one he wrote the script first (and for Miley) and then wrote the book after filming was finished. Interesting way of doing it.

I’m tempted to buy the new Jodi Picoult as it interests me a lot (the topic). But I swore I’d never read another of hers as I never like the endings…. will probably give in and buy it though.

Lindsey, I agree with you. I have decided to read JP at the library only. Because of the horrible weather, I have ordered so many books this winter-Margo knows as she suggested some of them…Denise-this is how I pictured the church in Diane’s book also. I still contend that BTS would be a good movie that would appeal to younger ages also. I am suprised that Sparks did the script before the book. Some of the girls at our school told me they liked the book, DEAR JOHN but not the movie…they seem to be hooked on this author-the few that read…mostly 9th and l0th graders…maybe he is now writing for that audience, and that is why they do not appeal to me.
