The Contest: Would You Like a Vacation on Topsail Isand?

topsail chairsdreamstime_2038050.jpg

I’m thrilled to unveil the contest we’ve been waiting for! A while back, I asked you, my blog readers, for ways I could celebrate my twenty year anniversary as an author with you. Frequent commenter, Glen Pierce, took the ball and ran with it! Glen lives on Topsail Island, North Carolina, the setting for Before the Storm and Secrets She Left Behind, and he came up with the idea for this fabulous contest.

Just listen: First prize winner will win an off-season vacation on Topsail Island, including accomodations and dinners at the Island’s best restaurants. In addition, that first prize winner will receive two invitations to a celebration held in my honor in mid-May. A second place winner will receive a $200 bookstore gift certificate, and ten others will receive autographed copies of my books.  I’m so grateful to Glen and to Topsail realtor Sterling Bryson for dreaming this up, as well as to the Topsail Island businesses who are sponsoring it.

How to enter? You can click on the contest link on my home page, or go directly to the contest page. You’ll need to answer a few easy questions about Before the Storm, and limit your entry to once a day. Then cross your fingers for good luck!

Diane, this is SO exciting! Thank you Glen for such a fabulous idea. I planned on re-reading BEFORE THE STORM before the sequal was released so the contest is just an added bonus. Some lucky reader is going to be in 7th heaven when the winner is announced!

    Wow!!! I’m stunned!
What fabulous prizes for the lucky winners. Glen, how completely generous and thoughtful of you to do this!

  3. Denise on April 15, 2009 at 2:00 pm

Oops! I also meant to thank Diane for her generosity, too! Lol!

AH! I love this idea (thx Glen) and I LOVE the prizes (thx Diane :P)… i don’t love that even if by some far-reaching chance i may win, i can’t make it to the celebration πŸ™ GRR! Good luck to everyone and Super congrats to the lucky reader who will be on cloud 9.
Diane- Absolutely CAN’T wait for Secrets to be released!

Diane, Laura and I have a question…your comment above says ‘limit your entry to once a day’…should this have said enter only once?…surely we’re not allowed to enter everyday?…contest rules don’t say but I would quess we are to answer questions and submit only 1 time…

  7. Diane Chamberlain on April 16, 2009 at 12:29 pm

You may enter once a day! Go for it!

  8. Margo on April 16, 2009 at 12:32 pm

Omigosh!…Laura and I are ‘goin for it’!!!!!! (-O:

Great idea. However, I can’t come that weekend–little granddaughter’s birthday, and her celebration is either Mother’s Day weekend or that weekend…however…what a wonderful chance for some lucky reader…love it…Good luck Margo!!!!!! All you others too, but I know Margo will be in seventh heaven and enter daily!!!!!!!!!!) πŸ™‚

What a great start of the contest! We have had quite a few entries so far.
Just for clarification… the Topsail Island Off-Season vacation is of your time choosing. Even if you cannot make for the party, y’all come on down and we’ll make sure you are treated like royalty!!! If you’ve seen the news lately, we’ve been tagged as the “Best Beach Vacation Spot in America”. And it’s true, we’re the best bang for your buck.
You can enter once each and every day. The more you enter the more chances you have to win!
I especially like the autographed books by Diane. I just finished “Summers Child” and boy does she weave a wicked and twisted tale.
Thanks to everyone who (whom) has entered. This is exciting for us here at the ends of the earth!!!! We just got cable so hula hoops can’t be far behind πŸ™‚

Just wanted to mention a couple of things…just reread one of my favorite all time books-beware rough rough rough language…may not be in print: HOME BEFORE MORNING by Lynda Van Devanter…the girls found it in my attic…I have read this book so many times through the years-about Vietnam…one of my pet projects.
Also-saw the Hannah Montana movie–the girls had seen it–but Nana wanted to. I laughed so hard; I cried…the song she sings about the CLIMB…I think that is the name-is so touching and so so true…most of us can relate…I realize this is supposed to be a little girls’ movie-but it has the sweetest message for all of us…

  12. brenda on April 16, 2009 at 8:24 pm

Just googled the author of the book-she died in 2002…a leader for Vietnam Vets…how sad-she was my age…

  13. brenda on April 16, 2009 at 8:26 pm

The computer cut me off-darn these machines…her book inspired CHINA BEACH-the tv series-you have to try to read it–quite good.

  14. Diane Chamberlain on April 16, 2009 at 9:00 pm

Yup, the vacation is NOT tied to the May 16th date of the party, so I want to encourage Brenda and others to enter the contest. Thanks for clarifying, Glen!

  15. Margo on April 17, 2009 at 8:01 am

I’m refreshing myself on BEFORE THE STORM as we speak so I can get my entry in for the contest…looks like others have already beat me to it )-O: Whoever wins I will be so, so happy for them. What a great opportunity to meet Diane!
Glen, you are too much!…cable & hulu hoops (lol)!!
SUMMER’S CHILD was another fav of mine by Diane…she really shocked me at the end and that’s what I love about her writing…the element of surprise.
Brenda, I’m glad you’ve had such a wonderful time with your girls…Mother’s Day is right around the corner when you’ll be seeing them again. (-O:

  16. Denise on April 17, 2009 at 10:49 am

    I loved Summer’s Child!
Glen: LOL at the hulu hoops!
The problem with winning the contest is that if the winner is anything like me, they will never want to leave. Glen may find himself with a permanent refugee on his hands. πŸ™‚

Just popping in to say “hi” from Wrightsville Beach (a bit south of Topsail Island) where I will be the proud recipient of an award tomorrow (I’ll blog about this next week). We have a fabulous room overlooking the harbor and it is an AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS day here. We met my WIlmington publicists, Tori and Kim, for lunch and they’re also amazingly gorgeous and they’re busy getting the word out about the contest. Can you tell I’m in a good mood? And PS, for those of you who have never had the chance to read the aforementioned Summer’s Child, it will be reissued next year. More tomorrow. . .

  18. Margo on April 19, 2009 at 12:36 pm

Congratulations on receiving another award Diane! How beautiful it must be overlooking the water…I can’t wait to hear more about this trip and the award you were given!
I’m so happy that SUMMERS CHILD will be reissued next year…I LOVE THAT BOOK!…I have the small mass market paperback edition but assume the new reissue will be in Trade form…I will buy it!…Everyone, if you have not read SUMMERS CHILD please be sure and get it when it comes out…it is SO, SO GOOD!

  19. brenda on April 19, 2009 at 7:34 pm

Congrats Diane…I too will buy the trade paperback even though I have the other…
Hope you had a good time.
