The Happy Insomniac

http://www.dreamstime.com/-image9172185Yeah, that’s me. Well, I’m also waking up tired, but that’s beside the point. I absolutely love it when the reason I can’t sleep is that ideas for my work-in-progress are popping into my mind so quickly I can barely keep track of them.  Example from last night: A door that should have been locked was found ajar. A cop turns out to be my protagonist’s old lover, now married to her best friend. Her brother, heretofore unknown to me, ran away as a teen for mysterious reasons. And on and on the ideas came during the hours when I should have been sawing wood. I was too sleepy to write everything down but the images were so vivid I still have them with me today. If I have to be an insomniac, at least I’m a productive one!

How about you? How is your sleep these days?

I wake up worrying about things like my kids, bills, appointments. Im a single mother of 4 so I have a lot to keep organized. One time in the fall, I woke up at about 4am worried that i didn’t shut off the water line in my basement for the outside faucet. I got up shut it off and was able to go back to sleep.

Peaceful sleep to hard to come by. It seems that I dream the whole night through. Some are terrifying nightmares that my husband has to wake me up from because I am crying aloud. Some dreams are just purely strange and don’t make sense. Some dreams are magical. Two nights ago I saw my son’s (Chip’s) face so clearly. He has been in Heaven for going on 5 years now. Chip’s face was so beautiful in my dream. No signs of the depression that he used to suffer from. He does not speak to me in these dreams. I believe that he is allowed to visit me I’m this way. He only smiled at me, but that was enough.

I’m not sleeping much these days either…too many ideas to even make it to bed. I find myself up until 1 or 2 am way too often. Love when inspiration is the cause, though. Hope sleep comes…but that you don’t lose all that wonderful inspiration! Best:)

I find myself waking up at 4am every day. I often find it extremely frustrating, but then come to the realization of how peaceful and quiet it can be. I love reading books, especially yours, at this time of the day with no interruptions. I am just finishing up Keeper of the Light, and looking forward to the next two of the trilogy. I enjoy your books sooo much!!!! 🙂

I sleep pretty well most of the time. Although your books will keep me awake until the middle of the night reading. And whatever you were coming up with last night sounds amazing! Yes, I know, I am flattering you. Love your writing!!!

Hi Diane – I am glad you are a productive insomniac as that gives me plenty to read when I can not sleep – which believe me is most nights but picking up my kindle and firing up one of your books makes it bearable. I have just read breaking the silence and have just downloaded kiss river to lose my self in
