Story Weekend: Déjà vu

http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photography-eye-clock-frame-surreal-concept-graphic-vintage-stylisation-image42278687This week’s topic is déjà vu, a feeling that you have seen or heard something before experiencing it for the first time. Share your story about a time that you experienced déjà vu.

If you’re new to Story Weekend, here’s how it works: I pick a theme and you share something from your life that relates to that theme, however you interpret it. Thanks to all of you who’ve contributed. As always, there are a few “rules”:

▪ The story must be true

▪ Try to keep it under 100 words. Embrace the challenge! That’s about six or seven lines in the comment form. I want others to read your story, and most people tend to skip if it’s too long. I know how tough it is to “write tight” but I hope you’ll accept this as a challenge. Happy writing!

I dreamed I was in a pub with a friend and her boyfriend, couldn’t see his face, some years later, bumped into said school friend, we went to THE pub, standing in exact place, I felt dizzy, knew I’d been here before, it was the dream.

In the late 70’s I would ride through South Holland, Illinois. I lived in a nearby town, but South Holland at the time was the town to wish to live in. I would always look to the right, and wonder what these people did for a living to be able to live there. South Holland wasn’t a large town, but had no apartments, no bars. Churches and houses. Use to be onion fields. But I would look at the same area, and dream.
About 8 years later, being married and expecting my 2nd child, we moved into a beautiful home, same block I use to look at!! Never did I think I’d be living the dream I had.

The year of the Silver Jubilee 1977 i was nearly 12. My sister was taken seriously ill and was in hospital miles away. Me and my brother stayed with my nan near the park while mum stayed with my sister, dad travelled back and forth. The fair had come to town and for my brothers 9th birthday dad was taking us to the fair as a treat. The night before i dreamt my dad say hello to a couple i had never seen before, the man had a full beard and really white teeth. The next evening we went to the fair and the exact thing happened!

I get feelings of deja vu all the time. Odd conversations where I know exactly what people are going to say or do. But as a child I used to dream all the time about an odd shaped air craft that took off in an upright position and then blew up as it took off. Many years later l watched as the space shuttle took off and exploded . It was exactly the same as my dream.

I felt like this before! I remember it was after I reflected that drinking two energy drinks to get myself motivated to go to work, wasn’t a good thing. So then I took a giant leap of confidence and found a different career path. Today, 10 years later, I feel the same. However, not sure I can leap…. Where are those energy drinks? And where is that confidence? Just may need to practice my leap first…
