Happy Birthday, Sam!

A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from Oliver in England. He wanted to surprise his girlfriend, Sam, with a signed book from me and asked if he could buy one from me. I can’t sell my own books (nor do I have many author’s copies), but I was so touched by his request that I agreed to send him one. I sent The Midwife’s Confession since I was certain she wouldn’t have that one–it won’t be released in the United Kingdom until mid June.

Oliver just sent me this video of Sam opening her gift and they both gave me permission to share it. I’m so touched by Sam’s reaction and by Oliver’s thoughtfulness. The papers she’s reading are the email exchange between Oliver and myself as we worked out the details of getting a book to her. Happy Birthday, Sam!

Sam – whoever you are, I can see your birthday present was wonderfully received. Whatever you do – cherish Oliver. He is a real keeper. A present that takes time and thought to give is worth everything. Enjoy the book – I loved, loved loved it.

Sam, I’m crying as I watch you open this precious gift from Oliver and Diane…you have a wonderful man in Oliver…I know because this is something my husband would do for me…he is a man to cherish.
Diane, so wonderful of you…Sam will never forget this gesture by you and Oliver.
I remember when I sent KEEPER OF THE LIGHT to you for an autograph…I did not know you personally but hoped I wasn’t being too bold asking for your signature in my favorite book…when it came back to me with your words inside, I cried like Sam. I know exactly how she feels.
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SAM!!

Wow..what a wonderful idea for a birthday gift, Sam. It’s great that we can communicate through the internet with such a wonderful author…isn’t it?

I was waiting for a new post by Diane but decided to go ahead and make my comment now…MIDWIFE’S CONFESSION is an absolute page turner!…I was up until 2 in the morning until I finished it….people asked me at work why I was so tired…I told them a ‘Midwife’ kept me up all night (lol!!!!)…wonderful characterization and dialogue in this book…and of course I ‘gasped’ when Diane’s trademark ‘element of surprise’ hit me…I woke my dear husband up when I did that and he turned on the light and let me tell him all about the novel…he’s such a sweetie…he loves hearing about Diane’s books and especially this one since he bought it for me.
Everyone…enjoy it!…my only regret is that I read it so fast, I have to wait another year for a new Diane novel!

margo, I’m so glad you loved it!
I’m late getting another post up…finding touring and blogging don’t go well together! Hopefully this weekend.
    Hugs!

What a beautiful, beautiful moment shared. How lovely of you, Diane, to have so graciously and thoughtfully granted Sam’s wish. And Sam, you do indeed have a treasure of a fellow in Oliver. WOW! I’m crying now.

Isn’t it lovely how simple gifts give the most pleasure and treasured moments?! (though getting the simple gift was most likely no small task.)
