I had lunch today at a new Raleigh restaurant called The Grape, with a group of writers and one very savvy bookseller. This group has been together for a long time, but they’ve welcomed me into their midst and they’re just super! Nancy Olson, owner of my favorite Raleigh bookstore, Quail Ridge Books and Music, is a true friend to local writers, holding events for them in her store and handselling books she loves. Margaret Maron is the author of the long-running Deborah Knott mystery series, Sarah Shaber writes the Professor Simon Shaw mystery series, Kathy Trobeck writes very funny books as Mary Kay Andrews, Brenda Witchger writes mystery and southern fiction as Brynn Bonner, and finally, Alex Sokoloff is another newbie to the group and her first novel, THE HARROWING will be out September 1st. That’a quite a group, isn’t it? I love getting to know them all and look forward to hours of brainstorming fun and lunch-eating with all of them.
ps I had the shrimp and crab salad, changing my order only 3 times as I heard what others ordered. A record. It was yummy.
Thanks! I haven’t read a word of these authors 🙁
The link to Margaret Maron doesn’t work as it should for me. It takes me to Mary Kay Andrews.
Diane and Lorene…it took me to Mary Kay Andrews also…I did get to her website by typing http://www.margaretmaron and was able to read about her books…thx for sharing author names with us Diane…I’d heard of Mary Kay and just recently bought ‘Savannah Breeze’ but the others are new to me…what a great group to share ideas with and have lunch!!
Thanks for that feedback, L and M! I’ll fix it pronto.
A gift I am going to give myself when I finish my Master’s next year-PLAN a trip to a workshop with D. Chamberlain—what more could anyone want????
Brenda, i’ll let you know when I have one scheduled!
