Story Weekend: Cats

http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photo-cat-hiding-white-persian-inside-sofa-image32972355What’s your cat story? I know you’ve got one!

If  you’re new to Story Weekend, here’s how it works: I pick a theme and you share something from your life that relates to that theme, however you interpret it. Thanks to all of you who’ve contributed. As always, there are a few “rules”:

▪   The story must be true

▪   Try to keep it under 100 words. Embrace the challenge! That’s about six or seven lines in the comment form. I want others to read your story, and most people tend to skip if it’s too long. I know how tough it is to “write tight” but I hope you’ll accept this as a challenge. Happy writing!

Next door’s cat used to sneak into our house. For a while we chased her out, but then we noticed how skinny and mangy she was, and we realised our neighbours had moved out and left her behind to fend for herself. We started feeding her, and she quickly filled out and looked in better condition. After painstaking weeks of trying to get her to trust us, I eventually managed to stroke her and by the sound of her purring as I scratched her behind the ears, I think she couldn’t believe her luck. Months later, our neighbours moved back in. We heard them standing in the garden calling for Tigger, but she didn’t go back to them.

Wow, that makes me angry. Thanks for giving Tigger a good home!

I personally am not a cat fan but I think it is disgusting how people move and leave the cat behind and it must happen regularly because there are 3 on our street that have been abandoned like that. I like the way Tigger got his own back though 🙂

My two year old cat Jemima, had her first ever litter of kittens on March 18th. I watched as each was born, the cord severed and each little one was thoroughly cleaned, five in all. The first two were white with black splodges like mum and the last three all black. Although one has a white spot under its chin and one a white spot on its belly, so each is identifiable. My granddaughter, 3 year old Mayzie, named four of them, Dotty, Milo, Fizz and Doodles after the TV characters and I was allowed to name the last so I called it Sochi after the winter olympics. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks playing ‘find the kitten or kittens’ as she loves to hide one or all when I go out. They have just opened their eyes and ears so looking cute with pale blue eyes. I’m going to spend the next few weeks chasing them all over the place, no doubt. but every minute is going to treasured as mum is going to the vets soon, so no more kitties here!

What memories for your granddaughter. Good luck with the kitties. I love their names.

I had a cat named Peppy who moved bag and baggage to my parent home down the road for reasons only clear to herself. My dad did not share our love of the feline species and one night in May he reached down under the table and stroked her fur and said’ Nice Puss Puss’ and I knew then that what was to follow would change my life forever. After the acclamation he headed down to bed though it was only 7 pm. I was pregnant with my first born and went to check on him , only to find that he had suffered a cardiac arrest. Being a nurse at times like these is never a good thing as we simply know too much. Grabbing mom’s bread board which I stuffed behind his back I tried to breathe life into the man that I had only that very year began to get to know as a person who cared about me. Cue ambulance, cue panic and praying. Cue negotiating with God.None of it worked as he left us 2 hours later to join the other hunters and fishermen who went before him and had held a place for them in their boats. Life that day became about All that you leave Behind and how important it is that we make each second count to those that we love and so I travel.

I’m so sorry, Sheree. I’m only glad that you and your dad had that chance to express your caring for one another. xoxo

We had a gray Manx cat who would emerge from one of my children’s bedroom at exactly 11:00 PM every week night. She would jump up on the foot stool and sit there, mesmerized throughout the entire news/weather segments. When the weather was over, she would get down and go back to bed. We knew the sign-on music was her cue to come running but it took us a while to determine that what she was drawn to was the “pointer” (this was before the digital weather equipment) the weather person used to point to the weather map. Sometimes she would slap at the stick on the screen and other times just follow it with her eyes. Weeknights only, never during the day nor on weekend nights.

      Too funny!

After my last dog had to be put down and after many, many years of being strictly a dog owner, I had the opportunity to pick out one of my landlord’s kittens. I waited a couple months until we felt they were ready and my new precious kitten was mine! He told me it was a girl since she was Calico so I named her Sheba. I bought all kinds of toys, treats and spoiled her rotten! The Neuter Scooter was in town after I had her a year, She was an indoor cat, but I leash trained her and we went for walks in the yard. That is another story!! LOL So, I dropped my precious Sheba off, worried so much about her then finally hours later I was able to pick her up. She was knocked out. Read the paper that the vet filled out. PET IS MALE. LMBO!! Sheba was indeed a boy!! I was told she was Calico, papers said Tiger with White. Sheba didn’t have the orange, she was black/brown and white. I was a new cat owner, I had no idea!
After 5 short years, I had to put him down. They did surgery taking out 26 kidney stones. He never recovered. I have 2 cats now and love them but Sheba has my heart. My fav!!

Deb, that is too funny. . . except for losing ‘her’ so young. Been there. 🙁

Like Deb Miller’s Sheba, our Siamese Sam had to be renamed Samantha after she had kittens in our son’s top bunk bed. Seven kittens! She was such a good mother, turning over to nurse the “extra” kitten alone since she had only 6 feeding stations. But she would move those kittens almost every day, jumping down from the top bunk with a poor little cat swinging in her mouth, only to move them back up to the top bunk again. Amazingly, they all survived. By the way, our other Siamese Simon had to be renamed Simone when we took him to be neutered. Obviously we were not very adept at determining cat gender!

My next door neighbour (although I have now moved) and her children seem to have a very unusual knack for finding abandoned animals, mainly cats. She found 2 so adopted them then her son found 3 kittens abandoned in the woods on a rare visit to the woods I might add he was only about 12 at the time and wasn’t supposed to go there but risked getting into trouble to save the kittens. She found a Cat with kittens at work which is a factory so a dangerous place for them to be so she took them all home (although I did find homes for 2 of the kittens) she now has 9 cats and 2 dogs they are all rescued and she wouldn’t part with any of them

She was very tiny for a 10 year old kitty. There were other things too. Her head was on not quite straight and her brown tiger fur was shot through with streaks of orange. She liked to observe us as we did our barn chores but didn’t want us near her. Until this very cold winter when she decided to join the other cats in the warmth of the office. It was just for 4 weeks though. Little Mowgli didn’t survive the winter. We were just glad we got to know her loud purrs and her gentle eyes.

We took a cat from the RSPCA. She had been taken away from her previous owners because they did not treat her properly. She was overweight and very nervous of everything. We got her to a sensible weight and she began to trust us and was less nervous. My daughter came home from university and kept sneezing this was worse the next time she came back. This time she came home for Easter she could not breathe despite taking tablets so we have had to take the cat back to the RSPCA which was very sad. I hope they find her a really good new family. My daughter is much better now.

My cat Cher-con will get into any vehicle she can. When anyone is visiting or doing work in our home, we have to remind them to close all windows, doors,& sunroof , We do get some strange looks when we ask them to check to make sure she is not looking to take a ride. We had wood delivered and when the gentleman got home, Sure enough she had made the trip home with him in the back of his truck ! It is so bad the neighbors call her the FED EX cat. Because almost every day they see the truck stop. and Cher-con gets put out.

We have a new kitten that appears suddenly woithout making a sound. I thought Mr. Whiskers was asleep in the other room when it was lunchtime for me. I left my open can of tuna on the counter as I turned around to get Mayo., relish., and bread out of the refrigerator to make my tuna fish sandwich. As I turned back around to take all my goodies to the counter I saw Mr. Whiskers eating my tuna in the can. He did a pretty good job eating half of the tuna leaving me enough for my sandwich. All I could do was laugh and tell Mr. Whiskers that I would be wiser from now on at lunchtime.

My cat Sam is incredibly mean to everyone, everyone that is except me. She gets so jealous whenever I have guests over. She will sit and stare at my guests or get on my lap and refuse to move. It gives me great stories to tell, but she is so crazy.

My mom was helping her friend rent out her house and noticed that a cat kept wondering around. We took her into our jome. We called her miss kitty, but one day my nephew came in calling for rainbow. We had no idea who this was at First until the cat came right up to him and started purring. We ended up changing her name to rainbow and keeping her because her owners never responded to our phone calls. Thankfully we were there to give her a
      loving home.
